Tee in – one of the oldest existing tea stores in Regensburg.
If you stroll through Untere Bachgasse in Regensburg’s old town, you will be drawn to the lovely scent of tea, which transports your senses to faraway lands. On a sales area of just under 16m2, and thus one of the smallest sales areas in Regensburg, the store owner Wolfgang Ley offers about 400 different, selected tea varieties. Everything is marked by his personal handwriting – each of the large metal storage tins bears a handwritten label, and each package of tea is weighed on a large scale in front of the customer and then labeled by hand.
„A gut decision“
Wolfgang Ley’s takeover of the tea store in 1985 from an acquaintance was originally intended as a temporary solution after his studies. But this temporary solution has now grown into more than 35 years, and a solid network of regular customers has been built up – some of whom have also been coming since their student days. Thus, there is not only a purely business relationship between the tea store owner and his clientele, but also a relationship of trust. He is supported by a number of employees, who also advise the customers very well with their expertise. Some of them are still students or have been working at Tee in since their student years, bringing a breath of fresh air and new inspiration.
Continuing with old traditions
The tea store gains a special charm from its location in the Lerchenfelder Hof, a late medieval trading house. As with many of the historic buildings, after passing through a passageway, you find yourself in a large courtyard. Here you can still see the old warehouses and storage rooms where Wolfgang Ley sometimes stores his tea. „Continuing the original trading tradition within historic walls is one of the reasons why I run the tea in with so much heart and soul,“ says the owner with a smile, and indeed he creates a successful contrast to franchises.

A touch of Japan
The very coherently designed shop window and the tasteful selection of tea accessories are particularly eye-catching. The shop window already gives an idea of what is confirmed when you enter the store – the cups, teapots and tea tins presented are mostly Japanese in style and make a perfect souvenir or gift.
Fancy a sample?
The assortment of tea in includes a wide range of the most common teas: black tea, green tea, white tea, oolong tea, herbal tea, fruit tea and rooibos tea. There are tea varieties without flavors as well as flavored tea blends, and there is also the home-made Regensburg house tea – a popular herbal tea blend. For the people who want to try a variety of teas or cannot settle on a single 100 gr. Package of tea, there’s the possibility of having packages of 50gr to be weighed out for a price of 1.60€. Also, small tea testers which are enough for a pot of tea, are available and are excellent as a gift idea or for filling homemade Advent calendars.
Despite its small sales area, Tee in offers everything you need to make yourself comfortable at home with a cup of tea. And if you don’t want to go outside during uncomfortable weather, you can even have your tea delivered to your home, just give us a call or send us an email!
